Présentation générale :

In an increasingly international business environment, confidence and capabilities in business English are critical for a successful career ! Programme :

Using a real case from an international company, prepared under IFRS, we will use a building block approach in the learning objectives :

Sequence 1 : Foundation

  • A refresher on basic finance concepts including ratios, rates of change, trends and financial reports.
  • A introduction to international cultural norms, behaviours and approaches that impact your ability to successfully influence.

[Mini quiz] – word matching with definitions/concepts or multiple choice.

[Role play] – role play a typical international finance project deliverable dialogue with a colleague you’ve never met.

Sequence 2 : Building Your Knowledge

Using a real use case of financial statements, we will review how to read, understand and communicate the results reflected in the :

  • Income statement.
  • Balance sheet.
  • Statement of Cash Flows.
  • Notes to the financial statements.
  • MD&A section of the report.

[Case study learning].

[Simulated meeting presenting the business unit results to management, with management asking 2-3 challenging questions of the presenter – presenter’s objective is to influence a pre-desired outcome, unbeknownst to management].

Sequence 3 : Developing a Cheat sheet

  • We will develop throughout the 2-day program a glossary of key terms, concepts and definitions to help you easily recall English references, expressions and cultural norms when you need them most.

Sequence 4 : Putting it all into Practice

  • In small teams, you will analyze an assigned financial report and report back to the wider group in English – giving you a safe and ideal opportunity to practice the skills and receive constructive feedback.

[Case study applied].
